Williamsport Man Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud


On March 17, 2021, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the United States Penitentiary Lewisburg in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.  Benjamin Butler pleaded guilty in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.  According to the plea agreement, Butler pleaded guilty to Count One of the Indictment, which stated that in or about September 2015 Butler knowingly devised and intended to devise a scheme and artifice to defraud and for obtaining property, credit, and other valuable consideration from Synchrony Bank, by directing payment to Synchrony Bank from a checking count that he knew was closed.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s New Jersey Area Office and the FBI.
