On January 17, 2024, an inmate at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center (NEOCC) in Youngstown, Ohio, was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a $210 assessment for one count of bribery and two counts of possession of contraband in prison. Kevin Coles was sentenced in the Northern District of Ohio. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about February 2017 through on or about January 17, 2019, Coles arranged for a correctional officer to be paid money in exchange for smuggling Suboxone and tobacco into the NEOCC. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Midwest Region Office, the Cyber Investigations Office, and the FBI.
