On April 20, 2021, a U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) Paralegal Specialist assigned to the Western District of Texas, pleaded guilty to one count of false statements. Jennifer Loya pleaded guilty in the Western District of Texas. Loya pleaded guilty to count 6 of the Indictment. According to the Indictment, Loya worked as a Legal Assistant and Paralegal Specialist at the USAO in the Western District of Texas, where she assisted prosecutors who were investigating and prosecuting drug cases. According to Count 6 of the Indictment, on or about May 7, 2020, Loya knowingly made a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement when she concealed from federal investigators that she had revealed to her sister that her brother-in-law was under federal investigation for drug trafficking. The investigation is being conducted jointly by OIG’s Houston Area Office, the DEA, and the FBI. Forensic assistance was provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigations Office.
