On June 9, 2022, a former USMS Contract Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Leavenworth Detention Center (Leavenworth) in Kansas, was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment and 2 years of supervised release for one count of conspiracy to commit bribery and introduce contraband into a prison. Janna Grier was sentenced in the District of Kansas. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about March 2020 through in or about August 2020, Grier used her position at Leavenworth to smuggle synthetic cannabinoids, tobacco, and a lighter into the facility for inmates. Additionally, from in or about November 2020, through in or about December 2020, Grier communicated with other public officials about smuggling contraband, including cellular phones and packs of cigarettes, into Leavenworth in exchange for money. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Chicago Field Office and the FBI.
