On April 2, 2026, a former Information Technology Specialist assigned to the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO), Southern District of Texas (SDTX), Houston, Texas, was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas to two years of probation with the first six months in home confinement, restitution of $11,226.16, a fine of $4,000, and a $200 special assessment fee. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, Trevor Neill falsely pretended to be an assistant United States Attorney in a letter mailed in an envelope of the USAO for the SDTX threatening legal action in connection with a personal matter, unrelated to the business of the USAO. In addition, Neill willfully and knowingly made false writings and documents by providing what he purported to be orders for military reserve duty to the USAO systems manager stating falsely that Neill had been ordered to report for military reserve duty. Neill had been discharged from the military reserve, and the orders had been fabricated in an effort to obtain leave to which he was not entitled. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Houston Office, and the Investigative Analyst of the OIG’s Dallas Office.
