On April 20, 2021, a former FBI Special Agent previously assigned to the FBI’s San Francisco Division was indicted on three counts of false statements to a government agency. Babak Broumand was charged in the Northern District of California. According to the Indictment, on or about April 25, 2016, on or about March 24, 2017, and on or about April 27, 2018, Broumand filed three annual Financial Disclosure Forms with the FBI that contained false statements or omissions about funds obtained from an associate. Broumand was previously arrested on April 24, 2020, pursuant to a Criminal Complaint charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official, and indicted on June 12, 2020 on one count of conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official, three counts of bribery of a public official, and two counts of monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity. The investigation is being conducted jointly by OIG’s San Francisco Area Office, the FBI, and the IRS.
