On December 2, 2025, LaTara Brown, a former DOJ Contractor in the Office of Justice Programs, was sentenced to 24 months of probation and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment fee after pleading guilty to conspiracy to introduce contraband into a prison. According to the statement of offense, Brown conspired twice with a District of Columbia Corrections Officer to smuggle cell phones, pills containing fentanyl, and paper strips containing buprenorphine into a District of Columbia Facility. Brown was arrested on November 19, 2024, following indictment and pleaded guilty on May 13, 2025; the investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Washington Office and the FBI.
