On July 10, 2023, a former BOP Senior Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Medical Center Devens (FMC Devens) in Massachusetts was sentenced to 12 months and 1 day of imprisonment and 2 years of supervised release for one count of deprivation of constitutional rights under the color of the law. Seth Bourget was sentenced in the District of Massachusetts. According to the evidence presented at trial, on or about June 18, 2019, Bourget struck a handcuffed inmate, who was suffering from severe mental illness, with a large protective shield with excessive force causing serious head injuries. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Boston Area Office and the FBI.
