Former BOP Unit Secretary Sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contact

On August 23, 2021, a former BOP Unit Secretary previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Hazleton (FCI Hazleton) in West Virginia was sentenced to 3 years of probation and fined $5,500 for one count of abusive sexual contact of an inmate.  Heather Obrad was charged in the Northern District of West Virginia.  According to the plea agreement, Obrad pleaded guilty to a one-count Criminal Information, which stated that from in or about August 2020 through in or about October 2020, Obrad knowingly engaged in sexual contact with an inmate, namely, intentionally touching his genitalia with the intent to arouse him or gratify his sexual desires, while the inmate was a federal prisoner at FCI Hazleton and under her custodial, supervisory, or disciplinary authority.  The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Washington Field Office.
