Former BOP Maintenance Worker Supervisor Sentenced for Theft of Public Money

On December 9, 2020, a former BOP Maintenance Worker Supervisor previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Big Spring in Big Spring, Texas, was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay $4,855.91 in restitution for one count of theft of public money.  Marty Richter was sentenced in the Northern District of Texas.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about November 26, 2018, through on or about December 16, 2019,  Richter did knowingly and willfully embezzle, steal, purloin, and without authority convert to his own use and the use of another, property and a thing of value of the United States, to wit equipment, furniture, and tires.  Richter self-surrendered on August 13, 2020, after pleading guilty on June 23, 2020.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s El Paso Area Office.
