On September 15, 2022, a former BOP Lieutenant previously assigned to the Federal Medical Center Carswell (FMC Carswell) in Fort Worth, Texas, was sentenced to 18 months of incarceration and 2 years of supervised release, as well as ordered to register as a sexual offender, for two counts of sexual abuse of a ward. Luis Curiel was sentenced in the Northern District of Texas. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, in or about October 2021, Curiel knowingly engaged in sexual acts with three inmates at the FMC Carswell. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Dallas Field Office, with forensic assistance provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigations Office.
