Former BOP Inmate Sentenced for Offering and Giving Bribes to a Public Official

On July 26, 2022, a former BOP inmate was sentenced to 26 months of incarceration followed by 3 years of supervised release for one count of offering and giving bribes to a public official.  Derek Spencer was sentenced in the Eastern District of Virginia.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about June 2019 through on or about August 6, 2020, Spencer, in concert with others, paid a public official a stream of payments to introduce contraband into the Federal Correctional Center Petersburg.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Washington Field Office and the FBI’s Richmond Office.
