On October 22, 2020, a former BOP Inmate previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix (FCI Fort Dix) in New Jersey was charged awith one count of conspiracy to defraud the BOP and one count of possessing or obtaining prohibited objects as a federal inmate. Johansel Moronta was charged in the District of New Jersey. According to the Complaint, in or about October 2018, Moronta participated with others in a scheme to use drones to deliver prohibited items—including tobacco, cell phones, and cell phone chargers—into FCI Fort Dix. Due to Moronta being served with a summons, his initial appearance in the District of New Jersey will be scheduled at a date determined by the court. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s New Jersey Area Office, the OIG’s Cyber Investigation Office, the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, criminal investigators from the United States Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Transportation OIG.
