Former BOP Garage Foreman Sentenced for Theft of Public Money

On October 15, 2020, a former BOP Garage Foreman previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Big Spring in Big Spring, Texas, was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay $3,982.84 in restitution, a $2,000 fine, and $5,000 towards the cost of prosecution for one count of theft of public money.  Ronnie Landis was sentenced in the Northern District of Texas.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about February 15, 2019, through on or about November 18, 2019, Landis did knowingly and willfully embezzle, steal, purloin, and without authority convert to his own use and the use of another, property and a thing of value of the United States, to wit six BF Goodrich Rugged All-Terrain tires and a John Deere Gator utility vehicle.  Landis self-surrendered on June 3, 2020, after pleading guilty on May 15, 2020.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s El Paso Area Office.
