On September 13, 2021, a former BOP Correctional Officer who was previously assigned to the Secure Female Facility at the Federal Correctional Complex Hazleton (SFF Hazleton) in West Virginia, was sentenced to 3 months of imprisonment, 2 months of home confinement, and 3 years of supervised release for one count of sexual abuse of a ward. Scott Douglas Born was charged in the Northern District of West Virginia. According to the plea agreement, Born pleaded guilty to a one-count Information, which stated that from on or about September 1, 2018, through on or about January 31, 2019, Born knowingly engaged in a sexual act with an inmate who was a federal prisoner at SFF Hazleton and who was under his custodial, supervisory, and disciplinary authority. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Washington Field Office.
