On February 8, 2023, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Metropolitan Correction Center New York (MCC New York) was sentenced to 36 months of imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release for one count of obstruction of justice. Gregory McKenzie was sentenced in the Southern District of New York. According to the factual statement read in court in support of the guilty plea, on or about November 4, 2021, McKenzie corruptly obstructed, influenced and impeded the government’s criminal investigation regarding the smuggling of a firearm into the MCC New York by making false statements to federal investigators regarding his purchase, possession, and use of a prepaid cell phone. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s New York Field Office and the FBI.
