Former BOP Correctional Officer Pleaded Guilty to Conversion

On June 9, 2023, a former BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, California (MDC Los Angeles) pleaded guilty to one count of officer or employee of United States converting property of another.  Juana Cruz pleaded guilty in the Central District of California.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on or about November 16, 2021, while working the front desk at MDC Los Angeles, Cruz stole $960 from the wallet of an attorney, while the attorney was in the bathroom and the wallet was in a bin meant for scanning items for entry into the facility.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Los Angeles Field Office.
