On April 19, 2021, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution in Yazoo City, Mississippi, pleaded guilty to one count of accepting a bribe by a public official. Wesley Hughes pleaded guilty in the Southern District of Mississippi. According to the plea agreement, Hughes pleaded guilty to a one-count Indictment, which stated that from on or about April 1, 2018, through on or about March 1, 2019, Hughes did corruptly demand, seek, receive, accept and agree to accept U.S. currency in return for providing prohibited objects to a federal inmate of a prison. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Atlanta Area Office and the FBI.
