Former BOP Contractor Sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contact of an Inmate

On April 14, 2023, a former BOP Contractor previously assigned to Riverside Halfway House in Miami, Florida, was sentenced to 4 months of imprisonment and 1 year of supervised release, including 120 days of home confinement, as well as ordered to register as a sex offender for one count of abusive sexual contact of an inmate.  Benito Montes De Oca Cruz was sentenced in the Southern District of Florida.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on or about December 28, 2020, Cruz knowingly engaged in sexual contact with another person who was in official detention and under his custodial, supervisory, and disciplinary authority.  The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Miami Field Office.
