On March 15, 2022, a former BOP Contract Correctional Officer assigned to the Rivers Correctional Institution in Winton, North Carolina, was arrested following an Indictment charging him with one count of bribery of a public official and one count of introduction of contraband. Dorrein Askew was indicted in the Eastern District of North Carolina. According to the Indictment, from on or about November 1, 2019, through on or about December 10, 2019, Askew accepted monetary payments in return for smuggling alcohol into the prison. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Washington Field Office, with forensic assistance provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigation Office.
