Former and Current BOP Correctional Officers Pleaded Guilty and Sentenced for Making False Statements

On February 18, 2021, one former BOP Senior Correctional Officer and one current BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Butner (FCI Butner) in North Carolina, each pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement in an official certificate. Each Correctional Officers was sentenced to six months of probation and a $1,000 fine.  Former BOP Correctional Lonnie Faircloth and BOP Correctional Officer Eric Stephenson were sentenced in the Eastern District of North Carolina.  According to the Indictment, on or about July 26, 2019, Stephenson willfully and knowingly made a false writing and document by falsely declaring on a Department of Justice form that he had conducted rounds in an inmate housing unit when he knew the rounds had not been completed.  Also according to the Indictment, on or about October 4, 2019, Faircloth willfully and knowingly made a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement when he stated that he had no knowledge of Stephenson sleeping while on duty at FCI Butner. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Washington Field Office
