On August 4, 2026, a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent previously assigned to FBI Headquarters Counterintelligence and Espionage Division, was arrested on probable cause that he violated interstate transportation of stolen goods, securities, and monies and receipt of stolen goods, securities, and monies. Patrick Steven Yaroch was charged by criminal complaint in the Eastern District of Virginia. According to the criminal complaint, Yaroch used classified FBI databases to identify cryptocurrency accounts belonging to “adversaries” and on approximately 10 occasions transferred cryptocurrency from those accounts to his own personal crypto wallet totaling approximately $1 million USD. Prior to his arrest, Yaroch self-reported the activity to two Department employees on July 29, 2026. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Washington Office and the FBI.
