On July 25, 2022, an FBI Agent trainee was arrested following a 31-count Indictment charging him with 1 count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and tender offer fraud, 15 counts of securities fraud, 14 counts of tender offer fraud, and 1 count of making false statements. FBI Agent-trainee Seth Markin and non-DOJ individual Brandon Wong were charged in the Southern District of New York. According to the Indictment, Markin and Wong made more than $1.4 million dollars in illegal profits by trading stock based on inside information that Markin misappropriated from his then-girlfriend, who was an attorney at a major law firm in Washington, DC, assigned to work on the acquisition of Pandion Therapeutics by Merck & Co. Markin allegedly obtained the inside information by secretly looking through his then-girlfriend’s confidential work documents, without her permission. In total, Markin and Wong allegedly caused at least 20 people to trade Pandion stock, resulting in millions of dollars of illegally obtained trading profits. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s New York Field Office, the SEC, and the FBI.
