On December 21, 2022, a BOP Senior Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Medical Center Devens in Massachusetts was found guilty of deprivation of constitutional rights under the color of the law after a weeklong trial by jury. Seth Bourget was convicted in the District of Massachusetts. According to the evidence presented at trial, on June 18, 2019, Bourget struck a handcuffed inmate, who was suffering from severe mental illness, with a large protective shield with excessive force causing serious head injuries. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Boston Area Office.
