BOP Nurse Arrested for Bribery, Providing or Possessing Contraband in Prison, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances in Prison

On October 19, 2022, a BOP Nurse assigned to the Federal Detention Center Miami (FDC Miami) in Florida was arrested for multiple counts of bribery, providing or possessing contraband in prison, and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances in prison.  Ruben Montanez-Mirabal was charged in the Southern District of Florida.  According to the Criminal Complaint, from on or about November 1, 2021, through on or about August 24, 2022, Montanez-Mirabal did knowingly and intentionally accept a bribe; provide and attempt to provide contraband to an inmate in a prison; and possess and attempt to possess, and conspire to possess, with intent to distribute a controlled substance.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Miami Field Office and the FBI.
