BOP Materials Handler Supervisor Indicted for Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument and Money Laundering

On February 16, 2022, a BOP Materials Handler Supervisor assigned to the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in New York, New York was indicted on one count of unlawful use of a criminal instrument and one count of money laundering.  Obadiah Israel was indicted in the 75th Judicial District Court of Liberty County, Texas.  According to one Indictment, on or about June 30, 2021, Israel possessed and intended to finance or invest $300,000, knowing that such funds were intended to be used for the purchase and/or sale of illegal narcotics.  According to a second Indictment, Israel concealed U.S. currency in a compartment of his vehicle, with intent to use such currency in a criminal offense.  The investigation is being conducted by the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office with assistance from the OIG’s New York Field Office.
