On June 21, 2022, a BOP Inmate previously incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution Three Rivers in Texas was sentenced to six months of incarceration and two years of supervised release for one count of conspiracy to possess contraband in prison. Alberto Aguirre, who remains in BOP custody, pleaded guilty in the Southern District of Texas. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about December 2018 through in or about January 2019, Aguirre and at least one other person made an agreement to commit the crime of obtaining prohibited objects, specifically Suboxone, cigarettes, and cell phones, by a prison inmate. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Houston Area Office, with forensic assistance provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigations Office.
