On January 27, 2023, a BOP inmate formerly assigned to the Metropolitan Correction Center New York (MCC New York) in New York was sentenced to 35 months of imprisonment, to run consecutively to his current sentence, and 36 months of supervised release for one count of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud. Virgilio Acevedo De Los Santos, a.k.a. Jairo Taveras, was sentenced in the Southern District of New York. According to the plea agreement, Acevedo De Los Santos pleaded guilty to Count 2 of the Indictment, which stated that from in or about October 2019 through in or about April 2020, Acevedo De Los Santos participated in a conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud by agreeing to facilitate payments to correctional officers at the MCC New York in exchange for prison contraband. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s New York Field Office and the FBI.
