BOP Inmate Sentenced for Bribery

On March 5, 2021, a BOP Inmate previously incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution Texarkana (FCI Texarkana) in Texas was sentenced to forty-six months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release, as well as ordered to forfeit $15,000, for one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.  Gilbert Gomez was sentenced in the Eastern District of Texas.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about August 2019 through in or about January 2020, Gomez knowingly and willfully conspired with a federal correctional officer and others to pay bribes to the federal correctional officer in exchange for smuggling contraband, including tobacco and cellular telephones. into FCI Texarkana.  The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Dallas Field Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service’s Fort Worth Field Office, with assistance from the DOJ-OIG’s Cyber Investigations.
