On July 23, 2021, a BOP inmate pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Receive Contraband in Prison, Conspiracy to Commit Hobbs Act Robbery, Brandishing a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking Crime, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and on March 18, 2022, the Court unsealed the Superseding Information pursuant to which he had been charged. In addition, on July 13, 2021, the BOP inmate’s wife pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide prison contraband, conspiracy to distribute narcotics, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and on March 18, 2022, the Court unsealed the Information pursuant to which she had been charged. On March 17, 2022, the inmate’s wife also pleaded guilty to a Superseding Information charging her with perjury. BOP inmate Deejay White and his wife, Dawntiana White, were charged and pleaded guilty in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), and Dawntiana White was remanded to the custody of BOP in July 2021. According to the Informations, court filings, and statements made in court, on or about January 2020, Deejay White conspired with Dawntiana White to have a firearm and drugs smuggled to Deejay White inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) New York; in or about February 2020, Deejay White, knowing he had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding a year, knowingly possessed a firearm while he was an inmate at MCC New York; and on or about July 14, 2021, Dawntiana White falsely testified before a Grand Jury in the SDNY about how she obtained a firearm smuggled to Deejay White. The charges against Deejay White of Conspiracy to Commit Hobbs Act Robbery and Brandishing a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime are related to Deejay White’s participation in a May 29, 2019 gunpoint robbery which was not investigated by the OIG. The investigation of the remaining offenses is being conducted by the OIG’s New York Field Office, ATF, DEA, FBI and USPIS.
