On July 29, 2025, Samuel Smith, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Coleman, in Florida, was sentenced in the Middle District of Florida to 37 months incarceration for bribery and introduction of contraband. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about December 18, 2023, through on or about September 4, 2024, Smith received $43,901 in bribes in exchange for smuggling contraband, specifically marijuana and other prohibited narcotics, into FCC Coleman for inmates.
