On August 13, 2026, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution in Talladega, Alabama, was sentenced to 12 months and one day of imprisonment and three years of supervised release for bribery. Lakiesha James was sentenced in the Northern District of Alabama. According to the indictment, from on or about February 1, 2025, through April 15, 2025, James accepted monetary bribes to smuggle cigarettes into the Federal Correctional Institution in Talladega, Alabama. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Charleston Locale and the FBI.
