On May 29, 2026, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Coleman Medium (FCI Coleman Medium), in Florida, was sentenced to 12 months and 1 day of incarceration. Micheal Brooks was sentenced in the Middle District of Florida. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, Brooks’ fingerprints were found on a shrink-wrapped bundle of tobacco turned into BOP staff by an inmate within FCI Coleman Medium. The inmate told the OIG that the tobacco was provided by Brooks, and that he agreed to pay Brooks $3,000 for the tobacco. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Ocala Locale.
