BOP Correctional Officer Pleaded Guilty to Wire Fraud

Date

On December 20, 2022, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta, Georgia, pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud.  Harrescia Hopkins pleaded guilty in the Northern District of Georgia.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about August 3, 2020, through on or about February 11, 2021, Hopkins fraudulently obtained two Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, which totaled $38,200.  As part of her fraudulent applications, Hopkins included false IRS tax documents.  Hopkins spent the obtained PPP loan on personal expenses including a Caribbean cruise, a down payment related to the purchase of a new Chevrolet Blazer, landscaping for her residence, restaurant meals, and other retail goods.  As a part of the guilty plea, Hopkins agreed to pay $41,655 in restitution, which accounts for the PPP loan and fees incurred by the Small Business Administration.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Atlanta Area Office.
