BOP Correctional Officer Indicted for Sexual Abuse of Inmates

On April 24, 2023, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Aliceville in Alabama was indicted on two counts of sexual abuse of inmates.  Robert Smith was charged in the Northern District of Alabama.  According to the Indictment, between on or about July 6, 2018, and on or about February 2019, Smith knowingly engaged in sexual acts with two inmates who were at the time in official detention and under the custodial authority of Smith.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Miami Field Office.
