On October 14, 2026, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) Brooklyn in New York, was arrested following an indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery. Melissa Brooks was indicted in the Eastern District of New York. According to the Indictment, Brooks accepted monetary bribes to smuggle contraband into MDC Brooklyn and conspired with at least one inmate to provide them with contraband, including cellular phones. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s New York City Office with assistance from the FBI; investigative analysis was conducted by the Investigative Analyst from the OIG’s New York City Office.
