On March 18, 2026, a BOP Correctional Officer and Mentor Coordinator assigned to the Metropolitan Detention Center Brooklyn (MDC Brooklyn), in New York, was arrested following an indictment by a federal grand jury for sexual abuse, sexual abuse of a ward and false statements. James Johnson was indicted in the Eastern District of New York. According to the Indictment, in or about May 2025, Johnson, while acting as a public official, knowingly and intentionally caused and attempted to cause an inmate under his custody to engage in sexual acts. Additionally, in or about October 2025, Johnson knowingly and willfully made one or more materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements to federal agents. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s New York City Office and the FBI.
