BOP Correctional Officer Arrested for Criminal Conspiracy

On August 5, 2025, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg (FCI Williamsburg) in South Carolina, was arrested for criminal conspiracy.  Megan Welch was charged by the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office via a State of South Carolina Criminal Arrest Warrant.  According to the warrant, on or about August 04, 2025, Welch communicated with a BOP inmate at FCI Williamsburg and agreed to smuggle two cartons of cigarettes, synthetic marijuana, and two contraband cell phones into FCI-Williamsburg.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Charleston Locale and the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office.
