USMS Inmate Sentenced for Obtaining Contraband as an Inmate of a Prison

On August 24, 2021, a USMS inmate assigned to the Sandoval County Detention Center in New Mexico was sentenced to 27 months (12 months to run consecutively and 15 months to run concurrently to his current sentence in another matter) and 3 years of supervised release (6 months of which is to be served in a halfway house), for one count of obtaining contraband as an inmate of a prison.  Dennis Griego was sentenced in the District of New Mexico. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, in or about April 2018, Griego arranged for a Sandoval County Detention Center employee to obtain narcotics and deliver them to him in the facility; and on or about April 30, 2018, agents seized small packages of methamphetamine, buprenorphine, and marijuana from the detention center employee who intended to deliver them to him.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s El Paso Area Office, with the assistance of the Cyber Investigations Office. The investigation is ongoing, because an additional subject is pending sentencing.
