Non-DOJ Individual Sentenced for Bribery of a Public Official and Providing Contraband to a Federal Inmate of a Correctional Facility Operating Under a Contract with the United States Marshals Service

On October 6, 2021, a non-DOJ individual and associate of a federal inmate of the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center (NEOCC), which operates under a contract with the USMS for safekeeping of federal pre-trial detainees, was sentenced to 5 years of probation for one count of providing cellular telephones to an inmate and one count of bribery of a public official.  Bridgett Lumsden was sentenced in the Northern District of Ohio.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about June 14, 2018, through on or about November 3, 2018, Lumsden provided an NEOCC Correctional Officer approximately $22,550 in payments via a mobile payment application in exchange for the Correctional Officer smuggling contraband to an inmate at NEOCC.  The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Chicago Field Office, the Cyber investigations Office, and the FBI.
