On August 10, 2021, a former USMS Contract Maintenance Worker and Correctional Officer previously assigned to the East Hidalgo Detention Center in La Villa, Texas, was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release for one count of introduction of contraband. Eduardo Erasmo Loya was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas. According to the plea agreement, Loya pleaded guilty to a one-count Criminal Information, which stated that from in or about November 2016 through on or about June 22, 2019, Loya provided and attempted to provide cocaine to an inmate. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Houston Area Office, the USMS, and the FBI, with analyst assistance provided by the OIG’s Dallas Field Office.
