On July 21, 2022, a former USMS Contract Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Leavenworth Detention Center (Leavenworth) in Kansas, was sentenced to 25 months of imprisonment followed by 3 years of supervised release and ordered to forfeit $4,000 for one count of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a prison. Angelica Grant was sentenced in the District of Kansas. According to the factual statement in support of guilty plea, in or about 2019, Grant used her position at Leavenworth to conspire with others to personally smuggle contraband, including cellular phones, into the facility, and between in or about May 2020 through in or about September 2020, Grant, after leaving Leavenworth, paid another public official to smuggle cellular phones into the facility. Further, according to the factual statement, Grant repeatedly used her Cash App accounts to send and receive at least $42,426 in payments to and from inmates or their associates. The factual statement states that, in total, the defendant obtained at least $4,000 in exchange for using her position to smuggle contraband into Leavenworth. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Chicago Field Office and the FBI.
