On August 18, 2021, a former USMS Contract Commissary Officer previously assigned to the East Hidalgo Detention Center in La Villa, Texas, was sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment and 1 year of supervised release for one count of bribery of public officials. Jayson Catalan was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas. According to the plea agreement, Catalan pleaded guilty to a one-count Indictment, which stated that from in or about January 2019 through on or about July 31, 2019, Catalan did corruptly demand and receive U.S. currency in exchange for distributing contraband to federal inmates. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Houston Area Office, USMS, and FBI, with analyst assistance provided by the OIG’s Dallas Field Office.
