On April 15, 2021, a former USMS Contract Correctional Officer previously assigned to the East Hidalgo Detention Center in La Villa, Texas, was sentenced to 27 months of imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release for one count of bribery of a public official. Amber Estrada was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas. According to the plea agreement, Estrada pleaded guilty to a one-count Indictment, which stated that from in or about May 2018, through on or about January 31, 2019, Estrada demanded and accepted items of value, that is, U.S. currency and a horse, in return for bringing contraband into the correctional facility and distributing the contraband to federal inmates. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Houston Area Office, the USMS, and the FBI, with analyst assistance provided by the OIG’s Dallas Field Office.
