On January 28, 2021, a former USMS Contract Correctional Officer previously assigned to the East Hidalgo Detention Center in La Villa, Texas, pleaded guilty to one count of bribery of a public official. Amber Estrada pleaded guilty in the Southern District of Texas. According to the plea agreement, Estrada pleaded guilty to a one-count Indictment, which stated that from in or about May 2018, through on or about January 31, 2019, Estrada demanded and accepted items of value, including U.S. currency and a horse, in return for bringing contraband into the correctional facility and distributing the contraband to federal inmates. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Houston Area Office, the USMS, and the FBI.
