On July 28, 2021, Mark Sami Ibrahim, a former DEA Special Agent previously assigned to the Los Angeles Division, was charged by indictment in the District of Columbia with one count of entering and remaining in any posted, cordoned-off, and otherwise restricted area on the U.S. Capitol Grounds while carrying a firearm, one count of stepping or climbing on a statue in the Grounds of the Capitol, one count of carrying a firearm and dangerous weapon on Capitol Grounds, and one count of false statements. According to the Indictment, on or about January 6, 2021, Ibrahim entered and remained in a restricted area on the U.S. Capitol Grounds, where the Vice Present and Vice President-elect were temporarily visiting, without lawful authority and while carrying a firearm; stepped or climbed onto a statue on the U.S. Capitol grounds; and lied about the incident during an interview with the OIG. Ibrahim had been arrested on July 20, 2021 following a Criminal Complaint. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Cyber Investigation Office, with assistance from the FBI.
