Former BOP Correctional Officer Sentenced for Making False Statements About Engaging in Unlawful Sexual Activity with an Inmate

On August 15, 2022, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, California, was sentenced to a total of six months of imprisonment, consisting of three months in Federal prison and three months of home confinement, and ordered to pay $9,500 in restitution to a victim, after pleading guilty to one count of making false statements.  Abel Concho was sentenced in the Central District of California.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on July 28, 2021, during an interview with federal investigators of the DOJ OIG and the FBI, Concho falsely stated that he "never" had sexual contact with the victim, who was a BOP inmate, or any other inmate when he knew that he had sexual contact with the victim approximately 35 separate times.  After initially denying he had any sexual contact with the inmate victim, Concho stated that he had sexual intercourse with the inmate victim once or twice, when in fact, Concho had sexual intercourse with the inmate victim on approximately nine separate occasions.  Also, according to the factual statement, Concho falsely stated that he had oral sex with the victim only two or three times, when in fact, Concho had oral sex with the victim on approximately 28 separate occasions.  Concho further falsely stated that he did not provide a cell phone to the inmate victim.  The investigation was conducted by the OIG's Los Angeles Field Office and the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office.
