On August 30, 2022, a former BOP Worker Foreman assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Edgefield (FCI Edgefield) in South Carolina was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release, as well as ordered to forfeit approximately $50,000 for one count of bribery. Phillip Coleman was charged in the District of South Carolina. According to the plea agreement, Coleman pleaded guilty to a one-count Information, which stated that from in or about February 2021 through in or about June 2021, Coleman knowingly accepted monetary bribes in exchange for introducing contraband cigarettes into FCI Edgefield. As a part of Coleman’s executed guilty plea, he agreed to forfeit $49,051 in U.S. Currency along with two firearms, for a total value of $52,500. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Atlanta Area Office.
