On March 17, 2021, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the BOP’s Federal Correctional Complex Victorville in California was sentenced to fifteen months of imprisonment followed by twenty-four months of supervised release for one count of conspiracy to commit bribery and to provide a prohibited object in a prison and one count of acceptance of a bribe by a public official. Paul Hayes was sentenced in the Central District of California. According to the Department of Justice's press release, from early 2018 through September 2018, Hayes provided inmates with contraband, including methamphetamine, suboxone, and cell phones, in exchange for more than $15,000 in cash bribes. The investigation was conducted jointly by the OIG’s Los Angeles Field Office and the FBI.
