On April 1, 2026, a former BOP Correctional Officer pleaded guilty following an indictment by a federal grand jury to bribery and providing contraband to a federal prisoner. Lakiesha James pleaded guilty in the Northern District of Alabama. According to the Indictment, from on or about February 1, 2025, through April 15, 2025, James accepted monetary bribes to smuggle cigarettes into the Federal Correctional Institution in Talladega, Alabama. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Charleston Locale and the FBI.
